Stabat Mater
Workshop based on Astorga, Pergolesi, Vivaldi and Sances
Stabat Mater is the outcome of a carte blanche offered by the Festival Lyrique d’Aix-en-Provence. Inspired by the works of Astorga, Pergolesi, Vivaldi and Sances, the project pursues the extra-musical theatricality of religious music. Inspired by pictorial and religious iconography, it gives rise to an interrogation of the performance of Stabat Mater on stage. Five singers then develop an improvised grammar of the body. Through this process the painting they represent evolves and its meaning is continually modified, becoming ever more complex.

Les têtes se balancent, des regards s’esquissent, les bras se mettent en mouvement, des torsions se créent où chaque interprète vit physiquement l’instant qu’il chante. Et le tableau d’évoluer en permanence, de se démultiplier.
