Is This the End? – Part I Dead little Girl

A pop requiem in three parts by Jean-Luc Fafchamps

The opera Is This the End? explores the states between life and death: life being extinguished, death looming, consciousness departing, the world floating between the two. A Man, a Woman and a Teenager find themselves in limbo, moving around without necessarily being aware of or understanding what is happening to them. A wandering that outlines the illusory contours of our perceptions. Alive, what can we grasp of the reality of death? Dead, can we still participate in the domain of the living? Are we still conscious or are these just the projections of our dying brain? The intention is serious and oscillates between humour, rage, emotion, meditation and fantasy…

Chapter 1

First part of the triptych, Dead Little Girl focuses on a Teenager who is lost in a transitional world populated with ghostly entities. Moving from fear to anger or utmost distress, she was “just a little girl” who was simply looking for love. The work is a musical and vocal show performed live, blended with pre-filmed sequences shot behind the scenes in an opera house (La Monnaie in Brussels). The film recalls the girl’s erratic journey.

On ARTE until 25/03/21

Press

(Opera Online, Thibault Vick, 12/09/2020)

Totaal onuitgegeven.

(Klassiek Centraal, Roger Creyf, 19/09/2020)

Is this the End?
